What Makes A Player Character?

This is actually the reason why I create roleplaying adventures. I want to create scenarios where players get to exercise their imaginations, to enjoy a little heroism, and to develop a sense that things are worth struggling for, fighting for and risking everything for - no matter how impossible the odds seem.

It is when the person plays it safe, never risks, never ventures past the safe haven of his little circle of light, that he gives up, and becomes a mere NPC. In my written scenarios, those are the people who have truly failed. Failed, and lost the game.
